Sheera is a publishing professional turned teacher. She had her “aha” moment at 4 AM in an airport in the Middle East. She was sipping her morning coffee and waiting to board a plane when an old rock and roll tune came on the loudspeaker. All around her young people started singing along to the song—in English. At that moment she realized you don’t learn English from a book; you learn it by using it. She has been hooked ever since on teaching English to help people communicate and engage with the world.
Sheera earned a Bachelor’s degree in English and a Master’s degree in Language Education from Rutgers University, New Brunswick, NJ.
Sheera teaches academic English to international students at Middlesex Community College and conversational English through e-Teacher. She also spent a year teaching high school English in Beijing.
Sheera loves using popular culture in her lessons and as follow-ups to her classes. She often sends students links to videos and song clips.
