American English Pronunciation
When you are speaking English, do you ever feel like people don’t completely understand you? Speaking isn’t just about vocabulary and grammar, it is also about pronunciation and accent. Most English classes do not focus on this key aspect, which has a huge effect on our confidence speaking in different situations. The goal of this course is to help you actively use the English you are learning with confidence, allowing you to be your best in every situation.
English has its own unique intonation and rhythm, which can be confusing for someone who isn’t a native English speaker. That’s why we have designed a course to complement your English knowledge and help you improve your American accent.
In this course you’ll learn how to stress the right syllable in each word, how to adjust your voice to English tones and how to produce a natural American accent. Acquiring these skills will help you speak clearly and confidently with native English speakers in any situation.
Improve your pronunciation in just 4 short months! Our live online classes meet once a week for 15 weeks in which we teach all the tricky subtleties of American English.
- Lesson 1-6: vowels pronunciation
In the first few lessons, we learn where each sound is produced in our mouth and which muscles to use, to produce them. Then we move on to learning how to correctly pronounce vowels (i, e, o, u, a) and mixed vowel sounds (ea, oo, ou).
- Lesson 7-10: consonant pronunciation
We continue with mixed consonants; “th” “sh” “ch”. With consistent repetition, we practice pronouncing past tense words, plurals and suffixes. By the end of this unit, we will have covered the foundation of American English pronunciation.
- Lesson 11-15: stress, rhythm and intonation
After learning the basics of pronunciation, we are ready to dive into the “music” of the language. As you practice, the teacher will assess and correct your pronunciation. You will then develop an awareness of your mistakes and be able to naturally correct yourself.
